Indian Values and Ethics

Indian values and ethics are based on the heritage and culture of India. Indian culture is very intricate in nature with diversity from religion to their social customs and unity remain with unity. The two principal pillars of Indian culture are namely, Human Values and Holistic morals. Human values refer to ethical, spiritual and moral beliefs while holism means oneness and unity.

There are various categories of values and ethics in the Indian Constitution, which indicate the values and principles on which the constitution is founded. However, Indian values and ethics are derived from Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagvatam, Ramayana and other Sanskrit works. A typical value cannot be identified as ethical or immoral according to the Indian Constitutions and above all, according to the Indian ethos. Values and ethics guide us to live up to our duties and responsibilities.

Indian values and ethics are incorporated in the various laws, rules and regulations governing the administration of Indian public life, including the rights of women, protection of minorities, protection of environment, civil and political rights, and economic policies. A successful government needs to conserve resources, protect the environment, promote economic growth, and ensure public security. For this purpose, Indian values and ethics play a vital role. They form the basic structure of the managerial planning and execution of Indian public policy.

Indian values and ethics to guide managerial decision-making and provide a rational basis for action. There is a strong correlation between economic objectives and selected ethical behavior. Indian managers are guided by four key ethical values: social responsibility, individual or group accountability, honesty and integrity. Indian managers are categorized into five main groups according to their levels of responsibility to society: social sector, corporate sector, public sector, and private sector. These values and ethics to guide decisions concerning education, employment, family, healthcare, sports, and other areas.

Indian values and ethics are the product of Indian civilization has been shaped by Hindu mythological beliefs, folkloric tales, and academic wisdom of India. According to these myths, there were eight Devatas, who established the heavens and the earth. These deities were known as the Agamas or the Treatise of Cosmic Laws. The main subjects of the Agamas include: justice, love, truth, compassion, forbearance, logic, integrity, and courage.

Indian values and ethics are considered to be a part of the heritage of mankind, because of the existence of various literary works that describe the spiritual and cultural traditions of India. Vedas, Puranas, dialogues, hymns, mantras, scripts and poems of India describe spiritual activities and practices. Vedas describe the philosophy, religion, and practice of Indian society. There is also a large literature in India on different aspects of life including art, literature, history, and sociology.

A major part of Indian ethics and values is the giving model, which emphasizes the concept of reciprocity. This value system believes that an individual is responsible for his actions and the same responsibility can be transferred to others. Hence, a company cannot claim its superiority when it provides training programs that are more expensive than its counterparts in other companies.

Indian organizations need to adopt several Indian values and ethics because human values are universal and timeless. All human societies and civilizations value justice and fairness. In addition, individuals are at the mercy of governments and private players with regards to their personal integrity and privacy. Therefore, the government should take utmost care not to violate the rights of citizens. In fact, human security, social welfare, and economic development require the active involvement and cooperation of everyone.

The Indian business ethics and values support the rule of law and the accountability of public authorities. According to these principles, public officials should never abuse their power, influence for personal gain, take undue advantage of others, or commit any dishonest act. Laws should always protect the interest of the people as a large number of laws exist that address various issues such as labor, land ownership, child labor and child abuse. Indian values and ethics are also based on a strong sense of spirituality and a strong commitment to the spiritual community. Therefore, companies can be very progressive when they make use of Indian business ethics and values. They are committed to providing jobs, promoting education and scientific research, and preventing violence and terrorism. In order to be truly progressive and develop products that benefit humanity and the environment, companies in India should follow the five basic principles of Indian business ethics and values.

There is no single set of Indian values and ethics that can be said to be a generalization. However, most of the Indian values and ethics can be loosely categorized into two main categories, one is ethical value and the second is social value. For example, socially progressive Indian values and ethics would include individual liberty, freedom, equality and fairness, and protection of the vulnerable. Ethical value would include economic prosperity, social progress and basic and progressive justice, and the quality and safety of life.
