Challenges of Young People

The lack of affordable housing, joblessness, poverty, drugs and violence are among the many challenges of young people today. In other words, for young people the obstacles to success are many. Young people face such barriers that they are left with few options but to despair and emigrate. Some leave their countries altogether.

These challenges are not new. They have been around since the beginning of recorded history. However, in our current society where the institutions of higher learning have hollowed out due to the economic downturn, these challenges seem to be greater than ever. Young people are the first generation to suffer the setbacks of the current economic crisis.

The lack of social programs is one of the biggest challenges of young people today. Most of them are either unemployed or under-employed. The lower the wages, the more the cost of living is pushed up. The increasing cost of goods and services has forced most people to live on what they produce. This has left little room for investment in education as well as other forms of social programs.

This has created a myriad of opportunities for criminal activity, ranging from petty theft to more serious crimes such as human trafficking and drug abuse. The youth is impressionable and is susceptible to influences from various corners of the society. This has resulted in a huge rise in the number of drug addicts and criminals in the country. The increasing numbers of drug addicts and criminals have left the young impressionable and they are easily susceptible to influences and suggestions from peers and other members of the society.

There is also a tremendous pressure on the youth. Most of them spend most of their waking hours either participating in school or at home alone. These pressures force them to perform tasks that are not at all beneficial to their overall growth and development. They fail to achieve their desired growth in studies and other activities because of the prevailing short attention span and hectic schedule.

Social problems facing the contemporary society are enormous. The challenges faced by the youth include economic, cultural and even ethical challenges. The problems faced by the people are enormous and they are usually related to inadequate education, extreme poverty, ignorance and even illiteracy.

The challenges faced by the young people are enormous but they can be surmounted with proper awareness and understanding. Education can only help to overcome these challenges. A right approach towards life can only bring positive results. Education allows the society to take the right decisions and the right measures in order to tackle these challenges. Education teaches the society, how to face these challenges and how to live accordingly. A healthy mind and a healthy body leads to a happy existence and therefore it is very necessary to have proper education for the betterment of the society.

The society should understand the problems faced by the young people and should find ways to eliminate these challenges. Education and awareness can help the society to get over these challenges. Education ensures that the young people remain fit and fine and lead a healthy lifestyle. The social norms are affected due to these challenges and the way of living has to change. This has to be understood and therefore the society needs to encourage the right kind of lifestyle to stay healthy.

These challenges faced by the young people affect their future as they cannot get a proper job. Therefore, they are deprived of the opportunity of earning the desired amount of money. The society should not give up on these people. Rather, they should be encouraged to participate in community service projects or take part in some charitable work so that the society could prosper.
