There are five major sculpture styles in India, the main of which is obviously the Indian Pale Horse Sculpture Style, the other four styles are the Mesmeric Indian Sculpture Style, the Nanda Karam Character Sculpture Style, the Indus Valley Civilization Style and the Modern Art Sculpture Style. As already mentioned there are several differences between the Indian classical sculptures of the past and the modern ones. One of the most obvious is the artistic inclination of Indian artists towards symmetry. A symmetrical Indian sculpture is a perfect example of the art nouveau style, as all the aspects of art flow in the same direction and in the same pattern.
The other things that distinguish one Indian style from another include the use of geometrical figures, the use of floral and symmetrical themes and of intricate details. The Nanda Karam style is one of the most famous and widely used art styles of India. This type of sculptures portrays stories through the use of nanda (ancient chariots), miniature portraits of historical personalities, nymphs and mythological scenes. This type of art symbolizes the eternal cycle of life and death.
The Indus Valley civilization is the most renowned for the fine art and the carving of horses and the beautiful jewelry that were discovered in the caves of that period. This art style represented the classical Indian culture deeply and tried to portray the spiritual importance of the Indian kings and queens through these artworks. In fact it is said that the best examples of this type of art in the world are the Ajanta-Ellora temple and the Ajanta Caves in India.
