A holy ritual, Pancha Bhoothas is a ceremony performed in a temple or a garden dedicated to the five elements of nature. According to some Indian Mythology and thoughts, Earth is the daughter of Heaven and Man is her son. Earth shares many attributes with her sister named Jala. Her beauty, strength, longevity and fecundity are expressed through flowers and earth element in nature.
The five elements of Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Wood are collectively known as the “5 Elements of Nature”. The first element, Earth, is dense, solid and stationary while the other elements are less dense and more volatile. The elements make up the physical world we inhabit today. Each element has an effect on the physical world we live in.
The influence Earth has upon the physical universe is great. It is the material that is visible and all the flora and fauna that support life on Earth. Since Earth is the most common element, it has great impact upon everything we observe around us. For instance, a tall and old tree would be weak and become weak over time without Earth’s constant energy it requires for growth and sustenance.
Water is the element of life which provides buoyancy and life support to all the other five elements. It is the element of life in general. A body of water is needed for plants to grow and to sustain itself, for fish to live in and for humans to exist as we know ourselves.
All life depends on water. The ocean is a rich water source. Plants need water in order to grow and flourish. Fish do not exist without water and neither do people. Therefore, water is very important to us all.
The fourth element is Air. Air is the element of the air and the basis of all physical existence. Plants grow from the earth and animals breathe in the air. All forms of communication to travel through the air and therefore, air is very important to all five elements. Even the very air we breathe is the product of earth from which it is created.
The fifth element is Fire. This is the element of magic and illusion and the root of all evil. The tree of life and all creation are flame. The existence of fire is the cause of conflict and the ultimate danger to the existence of any five elements of nature.
So, the earth and the water, fire and air, the wood and the stone are all the products of the combined effort and intelligence of the five elements. Nature is beautiful and truly wonderful. It is the product of an incredible interplay of forces that are brought into being by an intelligent mind. This mind is the Pancha Bhootha.
The mind is the seat of logic, imagination, learning, memory, and wisdom. The five elements of nature are united in the mind through the medium of the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is where dreams, nightmares, and the biggest fears of our time are stored. Therefore, we should always be careful and guard the subconscious mind while we are awake.
When we are asleep, the mind is like a calm lake which is calm and serene. When we awake, the mind is angry and volatile because the five elements of nature have been unbalanced. We must guard against these forces of the mind and should use the mind in a constructive manner so that it can become a force for goodness in this world.
The first step of any learning process is to know and understand the five elements of nature. Then, the mind should use them to create positive images and pictures. We must learn to visualize things positively. We must also be aware of the fact that the mind can only create what it can see. It is up to us how we will visualize our ideas and thoughts so that they will become a reality.
Finally, the mind must combine all the five elements into one message. This message should be heard by everyone in order to become a reality. Once this is done, everything that we want in life will start to happen. In the end, we will become peaceful and happy people.
