The sudden transformation of water into gas is known as condensation. Condensation is mainly caused by the reduction of atmospheric pressure that results from the evaporation of water. When damp air is cold, it can reach a saturation point where its ability to hold liquid water vapour stops (Saturation Point = 75% relative humidity). The rise in temperature above the saturation point triggers a release of steam or vapor and raises the humidity to a harmful level. The condensation can be reduced if there is a difference in the relative humidity from the outside and inside.
Condensation can affect any living thing, even plant and animal life. The human body is at a higher risk of suffering condensation related health problems than other animals because of the nature of our houses. The modern lifestyle causes a lot of extra moisture to build-up in our homes. This is because modern homes are built with concrete and timber as their only materials for the construction of roofs and walls. As a result of these materials, they are usually made of less porous materials which allows a large amount of excess moisture to build up on them and therefore become a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus.
There are many ways to reduce or eliminate the effects of condensation and the dangers it poses to your health and your environment. You can choose from the many methods of treating condensation such as dehumidifiers, humidifiers, heated towel rails and roofs etc. However, one way of completely eliminating the effects of condensation is to invest in a quality industrial convection system. These systems will remove the humidity from the atmosphere and instead transform the moisture into clean, dry air, which is very useful in hygienic environments.
