Culture and the Unity in Diversity

The feature of Indian society is religion. Religious intolerance is known to exist since ages in India. However, in the contemporary era the feature is seen in different forms like caste system, communalism, and discrimination against caste Indians in the society. The unity in diversity is the core value of Indian society. There is no form of social differentiation in India, and the concept of India as a country where people from different states and communities come together and live in one country under one head, is what the whole country believes in.

The feature of Indian society is its rich cultural values which are greatly appreciated by its people. The diversification of India into different languages and cultures, and the existence of different political systems have helped in preserving the unity in diversity of the Indian society. The unity in diversity is the core value of Indian society. There is no form of social differentiation in India, and the concept of India as a country where people from different states and communities come together and live in one country under one head, is what the whole country believes in.

The feature of Indian society is its unity in diversity, and tolerance for different ideas, beliefs and ideologies. There is no form of religious intolerance in India. The government protects every citizen’s right to express themselves and develop their cultural identity.

The intolerance in the name of religion is not there in India. The constitution guarantees freedom of worship for all religions, and facilitates inter-regional co-operation in the execution of legislation by the legislature and the executive. The tolerant attitude of the people toward other people’s belief and non-belief is the core value of the Indian society. There are numerous religions in India, and there is tolerance toward them. Even the followers of a particular faith can be united in the spirit of love, trust, and respect.

The feature of unity in diversity is also evident in the various social policies of the country. Education, laws, medical treatment, family, land, culture, and media are the cultural values that have made the country what it is today. Each of these facets of the society has been given a distinct feature, and each of them is represented in the constitution and the bill of rights. The constitution guarantees freedom of worship for all religions, and freedom to differ in opinions without being discriminated against. There are numerous sects in the country, and there are separate assemblies for them.

The unity in diversity is most evident in the language that is used throughout the country. Hindi is the common language, spoken by many people belonging to different states and communities. Marathi is the language of Catholics, but also the language of Muslims. Bengali is the language of the educated, and Punjabi is the main language used by the rural population. Tamil is widely spoken, and people from Kerala speak Tamil as their primary language.

Another important feature of the unity in diversity is the unity in diversity of its political system. The first constitution of the country declared that all men were equal before God, and that all men were created in the image of God. All were endowed with equal rights according to the dictates of the constitution. The Articles of Rights guaranteed liberty and equality of all citizens, irrespective of race, color, and religion. Religious intolerance never found a platform to exist in the country.

The feature of unity in diversity is reflected also in the cultural values of the country. It has been a tradition for generations, and the current generation is bound to preserve it. There are numerous films and plays that portray great characters that act according to the principle of unity in diversity. In the recent past, there have been some instances where different religions have united against a common threat, to safeguard their religious sanctuaries. Bollywood and other bigollywood players have made this feature a special feature of the film industry.
