The God Concept in Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagvatam

The question many of you would ask is why the God concept in nature would allow emotion in God? There are many verses that clearly show how God’s love and compassion would be expressed in different circumstances, thus it is not inconsistent for God to show the same emotions in different situations. The Bible shows us God’s ability to work all things out in the end and his power to forgive all who have wronged him. Why does God allow suffering and pain in this life?

If God had an easier time in the creation, he would have given us something we could experience to be happy and content in this materialistic life. Why do we feel so much sorrow for others when God has unlimited resources for us to be happy? If God provided us with a book on how to be happy in this materialistic life, wouldn’t you feel a little better about yourself, as if there is a guide or a map that tells you how to be happy? Unfortunately, God never gives us any such book, only teaching us about how to achieve happiness by working hard and putting our heart into it.

One of the principles of the Bhagavad Gita teachings is that it would help a person to understand the difference between love and lust. A person has to understand that love does not begin or end with lust. A man may experience lust sometimes, but the intensity of that lust would fade away because the moment he gives up his Material World, he would experience love. Lust can sometimes last for some time and at other times it would fade away very soon. To fully experience love, a person needs to surrender the ego and follow the heart.

According to the Bhagavad Gita, a person can be fully satisfied through service to others and this is what the society is all about. However, materialistic life is not good because it does not provide anything for the soul. On the contrary, the soul would be satisfied with material possessions only if they are accumulated out of love for the soul. This is why the soul would be pleased when it would realize that its needs, its desires and its thoughts are being fulfilled through serving others.

Srimad Bhagvatam explains why materialistic life should be abandoned and that knowing the true nature of God   should be the ultimate goal. He also says that real peace comes from within and that materialistic peace is false. This means that true peace is obtained by leading a simple life, doing good to others and above all, by understanding and following the ‘Purana’.

This deals with the relationship between the God concept and materialistic nature. God is ‘boundless’, meaning he cannot be limited or defined in any terms. He transcends all concepts of time, space and matter and he is totally unlimited. Material things are bound by their limitations and that is why they can only be compared to God. Everything has a value, including soul and mind of a living person, but the soul is much greater and more important than the body.
