Lemon Verbena – Our Pleasure

Lemon verbena is a common flowering plant found throughout the United States. It grows in the southern half of the nation. There are many medicinal and recreational uses for this aromatic weed. It was once highly prized by Native Americans for its medicinal and culinary uses. Today, we enjoy many of the same culinary and medicinal values of this lemon verbena.

Lemongrass has been used for generations to relieve nausea and flatulence. Today, it is valued for the health benefits that it provides. Lemongrass is more different than both of these though.

Lemon balm is an edible herb. It is used in the culinary arts to freshen the taste of food and to treat burns and scrape the stomach when one is sick. As an alternative to lemon balm, mint has also become quite popular as a culinary herb.

Lemon grass is a medicinal grass often used in natural health remedies. It is valued for its nutritional value, but also because it is an aphrodisiac for women. Many women use it to prevent ovarian tumors. This gives us a second place to appreciate Lemon grass for its health benefits. We can also see how lemons have long been valued for their medicinal value in cooking because it is excellent in controlling the growth of bad bacteria in the digestive system which is responsible for bad breath.

There are many places where we find Lemon verbena. It is valued for its medicinal properties in the health sciences, in fact it is recommended for all individuals to grow it in their gardens, for the benefit of their health! It is most active at night, so it is not harvested as much during the daytime hours. It is widely available in the markets and wholesale markets and is also quite easy to grow yourself. Many people are turning to the therapeutic and medicinal properties of Lemon verbena because of the medicinal properties it has for a range of ailments and conditions.

Lemon verbena leaves are quite large and it takes over a good number of plants to provide us with the quantities of leaf needed. It is a perennial herb which grows up to two meters in height and flowers up to four flowers. The flowers of Lemon verbena are quite large with a trumpet-shaped center. The leaves are dark green in color with a tendency to become glossy when cut. It has many uses both medicinal and aromatherapy including treating urinary tract infections, stomach disorders, flatulence and coughing.
