Should Students Get Limited Access to the Internet?

The question on the minds of many people who are still in high school is, “Do I need to get a computer in my room while I’m in high school?” The short answer is: Yes. But getting a computer while in school is not a good idea, as it could lead to the Internet being used for “the bad stuff” such as looking at porn, illegal and inappropriate websites, and so on.

One thing that all humans do is waste time. As humans, we all need to have things to do in order to pass our days and live our lives. This alone keeps us going, as without enough time, we will feel tired, depressed, and just plain dead inside. Thus, it behooves a student to get a computer while in high school, in order to have more time to waste, learn, explore, and waste some more.

But how does one go about achieving this? The most effective way to achieve Internet access while in high school would be to join the school’s computer lab. Here, a student could participate in classes, research and download courses for future classes, and use the Internet to stay abreast of current studies, and download music and movies. While in class, they could also talk with instructors and other students about current studies and download a lot of from their lab computers. All of these activities would truly enhance the “high school experience,” as well as save a great deal of time and money.

Although many adults wish they could indulge their teenage fantasies, restraint is key. It would be a real blow to the adult self if the wish came to use the Internet for inappropriate things, thus wasting valuable time and wasted effort in completing school studies. So, while a high school student may indeed want to explore their online fantasies, it is best that such explorations remain within acceptable limits, at least while the student is still in high school. While the Internet has certainly made life much easier for the busy working adult, it has also made it easy for the uninitiated to satisfy their own perverted desires by gaining access to the adult entertainment industry’s wide array of websites.

So, should students get limited access to the internet? Absolutely not! Instead, the adult should do all that he or she can to participate constructively in the educational process and explore all that the Internet has to offer in the process. For example, by joining study groups and finding opportunities to discuss current studies with other students, the adult can gain a better understanding of how different topics are related to his or her own studies, allowing him or her to more clearly make online choices about what to study, when to do it and how to better complete it.

The same goes for people who already hold down a regular job, even if they are hoping to take the Internet route to become more self-sufficient and financially independent. Those in full-time employment should not be afraid to learn about new computer programs and applications that will help them perform better at their jobs. Likewise, the Internet offers many job-hunting tools and websites that allow one to look for work and find potential employers who may be interested in hiring. By taking advantage of these resources, the busy adult can develop a more impressive resume, one that showcases not just his or her technical skills, but also the broader range of interests and potentials that he or she will pursue in the future.

As previously mentioned, the Internet can also be used for more productive ends than wasting time at a coffee shop browsing through the latest e-books or news stories. In fact, some of the most beneficial times for consumers are when he or she actually goes looking for something, such as an appliance or a phone. Going on a shopping excursion and using the Internet is a great way to cut costs and avoid spending money on impulse buys. Just like at the local store, the online shopper can compare prices and make a purchase based on the best deal, rather than simply browsing aimlessly. While the end result of using the internet saves time and money, it can also provide opportunities to interact with other people who share similar interests.

Outdoor activities are another benefit of the Internet, especially for students who are living away from their homes. Rather than putting up with cramped quarters and long hours inside a classroom, they can spend their free time enjoying nature in a more realistic setting. With a simple click, the student can easily log on and navigate a site that offers information about a particular area, such as the local parks, forest preserves or history museums. With internet access, students can do research and learn more about the world around them, without having to travel anywhere. These can be great substitutes for traditional college courses, which often require spending weeks away from home, cramming for test scores and learning new academics.
