Vastu is an ancient Indian architectural system originating in India. It is also based on Vedic mathematics or Vaishnava mathematics. It is basically a set of rules or guidelines on which building is based, which determines the overall appearance of a building. The primary influence of Vastu is on the construction of temples.
Vastu describes principles of design, measurement, space planning, ground planning, building construction, and architectural mathematics. It includes calculations regarding location of main door, entrance, windows, lighting, construction of bathrooms and kitchen, placement of pots and utensils, etc. Vastu Shastra includes ancient Hindu and Buddhist ideas. Therefore, vastu shastra has influence over building design.
Some of the basic rules and the first one of the Shastra is “don’t put the main door in the east.” This means that while determining the location of main door, don’t forget the aspect of the house that it leads to. Also, don’t place the main door at the end of the main hallway. In the east, the main door will face the eastern direction, which can create bad energy.
The second rule of vastu shastra is “don’t avoid putting the dining room in the south-east.” In ancient Indian architecture, the dining room was meant for preparing food. Hence, if you put the dining room at the southern-end of the building, it will obstruct the flow of air, which is necessary for the cooking. In addition, when people come home after dinner, they will find the dining room is blocked with your furniture, which makes them feel uncomfortable.
Vastu Shastra in India has a strong influence on the architecture of the country. For example, in Delhi, vastu shastra was used to suggest the relationship between the various parts of the city. It has even influenced the Moghul architecture. If you look at the various tombs of the Mughal kings and the great Taj Mahal of Agra, you’ll see that each monument has a significant vase that holds a significant object. The objects often have an association with the region in which they were created. If you’re going to build a house in Delhi, you should use such vases to fill up the house with positive energy. Vastu Shastra also says that small items (such as candles) made of pure wax should be placed inside the vases.
If you want to get rid of all kinds of clutters in your bedroom, it would be advisable to clean your bedroom first. Take out all the clothes, bed sheets, pillows, linen and other items and place them in the corner of the room. You can fill them back in and arrange them properly using your vastu shastra. You will notice that the negative energy that is hanging around in your bedroom is gone. This is because, when you cleaned your bedroom first, all the clutter-filled areas were eliminated and hence, positive energy was allowed to flow into the room.
If you are facing problems like lack of space in your house, then setting a Vastu schedule for your household will surely help you. Your household will be freed of all types of clutter-filled objects in the south-west and north-east directions. In the south-west direction, you should eliminate all the waste that is made by using plastic in your kitchen. You should also keep a large pile of rice and cook it using Vastu. When you cook the rice, it will be cooked using positive energy (as mentioned above) and therefore, it will release negative energy.
So, the ancient Indus Valley Civilization had a unique concept of lifestyle, called Vastu Shastra. Their concept of living was such that they were surrounded by nature, inhaling the fresh air and living in harmony with nature. The modern era has caused our lifestyle to become so materialistic that we have forgotten or perhaps don’t understand the benefits of living in a pure state of mind and body through natural means, such as Vastu.
