The Oldest Religion in the World

The oldest religion in the world considered by many to be the religion of God, while Hinduism has been called the religion of gods, is the religion practiced in the state of worship known as Santana Dharma. Most people who worship in this form of worship refer to themselves as “Sanyasis.” While Hinduism was originally called the religion of gods many practitioners refer to their religion as Santana Dharma.

Santana Dharm is the religion that many people in India practice. The people who practice it in the rural South Asian country believe that the God of the Hindus, the Hindu God Shiva, is a god who created the universe. He is also the founder of the demigods and other creatures who are worshiped in various temples throughout the Hindu world. One such temple is located in the state of Orissa.

While Hinduism is the religion of most Hindus and Buddhists around the world, it is also one of the oldest organized religions in the world. When this religion emerged in India it started out as the worship of nature spirits and even on the practice of seasonal feasts. The practice of seasonal feasts is referred to as “Sindh” or “Dosa” which is why the South Asian state of Orissa is sometimes known as the land of “Dosa.” Unlike the Hindu religion which revolves around the concept of an afterlife, the Orissa based Santana Dharm believes that true natures or essential energy is eternal and one that constantly warp and transform the universe. This energy, which is known as Durga is believed to have many names in Hinduism including Adhata, Dhanananda and Durga.

Another name for this divinity is Parashurama which is derived from Parashurama the son of Kashi and wife Udayin. Parashurama was born when Kashi was away tending to his fields while Udayin was preparing for her wedding. As punishment for his selfishness Parashurama was tied to a tree and left outside to die but when his father noticed his body he resurrected him and took him into his family. It is said that Parashurama was so powerful that even Gods came down to earth to worship him.

There are many legends attached to the religion of Orissa, some of which date back as far as 300 years B.C. Others date back much further as the Brahminical reign of the era. Accounts of Orissa having a distinct smell as a result of the divine presence were given long ago by the Brahmins who were prominent members of the Hindu society in Orissa. Another well-known story revolves around the goddess Parvati, who was often pictured as wearing a sari after taking bath in the sacred river Ganges.

Amongst the many different temples of Orissa located in different parts of the state, the largest temple of them all is located at Dharamshala, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is visited by a number of devotees who offer prayers to the Hindu god at each morning and night. A major attraction to the tourists in Orissa is the temple at Alagar, which is constructed out of a mud-brick compound. The Lingamala Temple, dedicated to Lord Lingamala, is a few kilometers away from Dharamshala.

Orissa is also known for its Buddhas and temples dedicated to these spiritual figures are dotted all over the state. The most popular among them is the Velliengiriya Jain Temple, near Mysore. This Jain temple serves as an eviction ground for the Parashurama, as the original owner abandoned it following a dispute with Parashurama and decided to relocate to Nalanda following a dispute over the ownership of a cape there. Another interesting temple in Orissa is the Ajmer Sharif Jain Temple. It is here that you will be able to see paintings depicting the serenity and harmony of Lord Ajmer Sharif, the patron saint of this religion.

While the majority of the people in India practice the Hindu religion, the people of Orissa celebrate festivals corresponding to it. There are a number of festivities dedicated to celebrating Orissa’s oldest religion, which are celebrated throughout the year. If you are a first time visitor to Orissa and are interested in exploring its heritage and culture, then these festivals are highly recommended.
